REMOTES/KEYPADS NOT WORKING:

If you have an individual remote or keypad which has stopped working, the most likely cause is a weak battery.  Keep in mind that a lot of these devices have a small LED light, or backlit number buttons; these lights will usually still work when the battery is too weak to send a signal to the operator.  So try a new battery.  Some devices, when they have been dead for quite a while, will "forget" their programming.  You will need to reprogram them.  Sometimes, devices just go bad, and you may need to get a replacement.

Lately there has been an epidemic of sorts, with all remotes and keypads ceasing to function at the same time.  This is not a battery issue, it is most likely an interference problem.  A lot of people are installing LED lighting and similar products in their homes, and these products can interfere with the frequency that your operator functions at.  There are fixes for this, but you will likely need to call a garage door professional.  You can check for this interference by switching off or removing the energy  saving devices and see if the remotes and keypad start working again.

Another interference problem you could be having is interference coming from your electrical supply.  This can be caused by an electrical device in your home, ie. a refrigerator, TV, fan, etc., going on the "fritz," and inducing the interference back into the electrical supply.  This would likely be in the garage.  A way to check for this, is to take an extension cord, plug the garage door opener into it, and plug the extension cord into a different receptacle elsewhere in the house, not the garage.  If your remote works now, the problem is in the garage circuit, and you can unplug the individual devices until the problem goes away and this is your defective device.

Our future blogs will include:
  • Broken spring,
  • Operator runs, but door does not move,
  • Phantom garage door operation,
  • Door will not close/open, with operator and more!

Stay tuned...we are truly here to help you with all your garage door and opener needs.

Cost increase is minimal for a higher quality, upgraded garage door.

Lay your old garage door to rest....it takes less time than you think
for a new and upgraded garage door to pay for itself.

If you bought your existing garage door 20 years ago for $1500,

and you open it 4 x day, 365 days a year, that's only 5 cents per opening.

If you paid another $500 for a higher quality door, this would be only 7 cents per opening.

The extra 2 cents would have brought you you a better, longer lasting door.

Now, that's my 2 cents worth.
